Abstract

<PICT:0902943/IV(a)/1> Vulcanized rubber may be reclaimed in an apparatus comprising a stationary hollow cylindrical casing 10, rotatable screw means 12 therein, a gradually-decreasing-diameter conical element 26 mounted on the forward end of said screw and rotatable therewith, a stationary wall 17 serving as a continuation of said casing and defining a restricted annular channel 28, a reducing-diameter element 33, further exterior stationary wall means 21 forming an annular chamber 60, a shaft 36 threaded into the reducing-diameter element, an increasing-diameter conical element 42 keyed on to shaft 36 for rotation therewith and a further stationary wall 22 defining a restricted annular channel 54. Cooling means may be supplied by passageway 31 and chamber 62. The dimensions of the final annular channel may be altered by screwing or unscrewing nut 49 on thread 48. The hot reclaimed rubber may be led away from the machine using a smooth hollow cylindrical member 65 which may be fitted between the nut 49 and a lock nut 67. Specification 657,614 is referred to.
