A screw extruder is provided with a mixing device comprising an inner series of baffle discs 4 and spacing discs 5 mounted for rotation on an extension 1 of the screw 3, and an outer series of baffle discs 8 and spacing discs 9 situated in a holder member 10 which is secured against rotation in the housing 13 but is capable of free axial displacement therein.
