902,930. Ladle pouring nozzles. BOCHUMER VEREIN FUR GUSSSTAHLFABRIKATION A.G. Nov. 25, 1958 [Nov. 25, 1957], No. 37940/58. Classes 72 and 82 (1). A refractory ladle pouring nozzle consists of a pipe having an inlet aperture 6 for molten metal passing from the ladle, the internal diameter of the pipe being progressively reduced from the inlet to a first substantially cylindrical portion 8, then progressively increased to a second substantially cylindrical portion 10, the lower end 11 being externally tapered so that the outlet is surrounded only by a thin wall of material. Preferably the portion 10 is longer than portion 8 and the external surface of portion 10 may have a metal jacket 4. The lower end of portion 10 may be constricted, as shown, or the cylindrical portion 10 may extend to the outlet end of the nozzle. The nozzle is preferably constructed of high-strength sintered material. The nozzle is for use in the degasification of steel and for reducing and controlling the dispersion of a stream of molten metal being poured from a ladle into an ingot mould under vacuum.
