Abstract

902,727. Carrier bags. DICKINSON & CO. Ltd., JOHN. Sept. 14, 1960 [Sept. 21. 1959], No. 31658/60. Classes 94(2) and 133. The mouth reinforcement strip 34 of a cord handle carrier bag is applied to a bag body forming web 60 together with the handles 30, 32 and has portions 54-56 which extend between adjacent blanks so that, when the latter are severed the reinforcement extends accurately to the bag edge and the portions reinforce the bottom of the adjacent blank. The web has adhesive 74 applied in the shape of the reinforcement and is slit in the handle regions at 92. Handles and the strip 34 are applied, the latter being torn from a web partially severed transversely to form a continubus series of strips. The web 60 is then tubed, cut transversely along lines 154c to link the cuts 92 and separate the blanks. Parts 54-56 remain on the bottom of the blanks and portions 57 are separated from the parts 54-56 during formation of the usual bottom slits 152. The invention is applicable to gusseted bags. Apparatus as described in U.S.A. Specification 2,060,450 may be adapted to produce the bags. U.S.A. Specification 2,060,451 also is referred to.
