Abstract
902,662. Centrifugal governors. THOR POWER TOOL CO. April 14, 1961 [May 19, 1960], No. 13496/61. Classes 57 and 122 (4). A pneumatic motor governor 31, Fig. 2, comprises a support 51 having an air passage 52, a speedresponsive mechanism 66, connected to a closure element 58 so as to move it towards and away from a position closing the passage; a detent 79 for holding another closure element 69 in a retracted position until the motor reaches a predetermined maximum speed when it is released to be urged by a spring 73 into a passage closing position. Compressed air is admitted through a passage 22, in a handgrinder handle 13, via chamber 27, passage 52, chamber 29 to the inlet duct 47 of a vane-type pneumatic motor. The support 51, rotates with the motor and in normal operation the weights 66, pivoted at 67, are moved outwardly with increase of speed to move the element 58 through cam surfaces 70 so as to close-off the passage port 54 and thus reduce the air flow. With increase in motor speed beyond a predetermined maximum, consequently upon the failure of the governor 31, detent 79 is moved outwardly by centrifugal force against a spring 81, which is retained by a circular clip 83, so as to release the detent from a depression 78 in the support 51. This permits spring 73 to move the closure element 69 axially until the radial faces 71, 72 abut to seal the passage 54, cutting-off the air supply to the motor.
