Abstract
902,409. Section-insulators. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES Ltd. Dec. 12, 1958 [Dec. 13, 1957], No. 38803/57. Class 36. A section-insulator comprises a pair of end members 2 and 3, to anchor the ends of the contact wire 1, coupled by a pair of insulating members disposed one above the other, the lower tension member being formed of two cap and pin insulators 6 connected by a tumbuckle 19 and the cap 5 of each insulator being pivotally attached at 7 to its respective end member, and the upper compression insulating member 9 being of glass or ceramic and fitted with metal end caps 10 each pivotally engaged with its end member 2 or 3. The upper member may be pivotally attached by providing the end caps with radially extending pins 11 which engage in clevis arms 8. A modification wherein the upper member is held in compression between thrust plates and bearing washers which are in turn pivotally attached to the end members 2 and 3 and wherein the end caps are connected by vertical rods to pivoted brackets supporting the runners 16 so that the latter may tilt out of the horizontal plane in unison is described (Fig. 2, not shown).
