In a spring mattress or cushion assembly 10 formed by coils of galvanized wire spanning a frame having end wires 13 and side wires 14 formed from a single length of wire with its ends secured together at 15 and turns of each coil being linked with turns of adjacent coils, adjacent ends of coils are welded together at 19. The marginal coils are secured to the frame by coupling wires 16, 17.
