A cross-bar 30 of a sinuous wire spring is pivoted in recesses 24 formed in the end portions 20 of frame elements bridging bed or sofa frames and comprising two outer elbow members 20 having reduced portions 19 which telescopically engage in a central piece 18 and the elbows 20 are urged together by the action of the spring. The part of the spring beyond the pivoted crossbar 30 is in the form of a re-entrant V portion wherein the pivoted cross-bar 30 and another bar 25 in contact with the elbow 20 form the outer ends of the V and a cross-bar raised from the elbow 20 forms the apex.
