Abstract
901,389. Bowden mechanism; reverse control. MORSE INSTRUMENT CO. Dec. 13, 1960, No. 42803/60. Classes 80 (2) and 80 (3). [Also in Group XXXI] A mounting for a Bowden cable 28 in an engine control unit comprises a bracket 35, pivotally mounted on a supporting structure, and a bushing 29 mounted in a rear flange 37 of the bracket 35 and being connected at one end to the cable casing 30 and at the other end pivotally connected to a sleeve 26 carrying a push-rod 25 which is secured to the end of the cable 27, the sleeve 26 engaging a front flange 36 of the bracket 35 after limited swinging movement thereof and before the cable core engages the sleeve 26. When the sleeve 26 engages the flange 36 it causes the bracket 35 to pivot about a rivet 40 thereby causing deflection of the cable 28 immediately behind the bushing 29. The push-rod 25 is pivotally connected to a throttle arm 15 attached to a shaft throttle control shaft 12 which has a control lever 13 secured thereto. An interrupted gear 18 keyed to the shaft 12 meshes in neutral position with an interrupted gear 19 in a clutch control shaft 20. A clutch control arm 22 on the shaft 20 has a swivel connector 34 which is connected to a push-pull cable for operating the clutch shifting lever of the engine. Initial movement of the control lever 13 in either direction for forward or reverse causes operation of the throttle and clutch. After rotation of approximately 45 degrees of the gear 18, the gears 18, 19 become unmeshed and the gear 19 is held stationary by the engagement of a circular edge of the gear 19 with the circular periphery of the gear 18.
