Abstract

901,213. Variable resistors; inductances. SANGAMO WESTON Ltd. Dec, 29, 1960 [Dec. 30. 1959], No. 44275/59. Classes 37 and 38(2). In a variable electrical resistance or inductance a sliding contact 16, 17, Fig. 1, is movable along a resistive or inductive winding 12 supported in the threads of a helically threaded member 10, the contact being driven by a control sleeve 19 along a guide slot 18, Fig. 2, in the sleeve, the slot having a non-linear contour such that the variation of resistance or inductance follows a desired law. In a modified embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown), a multi-turn spiral winding is mounted in a spiral groove on the surface of a flat insulating disc and a movable contact carrier slides within a contoured slot in a disc secured to a control shaft.
