Abstract
740,520. Transformers. ROSENFELD, M. Nov. 9, 1953, No. 30926/53. Class 38 (2). A continuously variable transformer comprises a bare helical stationary winding 1 at either end of which is coaxially secured a gear wheel 16; a contact member 5 being carried on a threaded spindle 9 by a nut 8, the spindle being carried by a cage 21 and having at either end thereof a gear wheel 10 which engages with the gear wheel 16 such that when the cage 21 is rotated, e.g. by a motor 18, the contact member moves 5 along the winding 1 in a helical manner to alter the contact position therebetween. The gear wheels are metallic and are connected to a rod 22 such that the contact member 5 is electrically connected to a terminal 23. The gear wheels 16 are slotted at 17 to prevent eddy currents therein. The invention may be applied to polyphase transformers having a plurality of cages which cages may be frictionally driven in synchronism.
