Abstract
1376233 Variable resistors WESTON INSTRUMENTS Inc 12 Jan 1972 [21 Jan 1971] 1363/72 Heading HIS An adjustable resistor is characterized in that it has at least two points of manipulation for adjustment of its resistance value. In one embodiment of the invention shown in Figs. 2 and 6, adjustment of the resistance value can be made by turning either the lead screw 2, or the screw 6, which engages a helical gear on screw 2 moving a contact 54. The contact 54, is made in two parts: a bifurcated carriage part 50 (Fig. 7), of resilient deformable polymeric material, which engages the threaded portion of the lead screw and a contact member (Fig. 9), made in one piece from resilient sheet metal and formed in a "U"-shape, designed to embrace carriage 50, and having arms 53, 55 carrying contacts 54, 56 which engage the resistance element and return conductor respectively. The base 7 of the device is made of a substance having good electrical insulating properties, e.g. a polymeric substance.
