Abstract
786,566. Resistance potentiometers. ETABLISSEMENTS M.C.B. & VERITABLE ALTER, and RAYMOND, F. H. Oct. 20, 1954 [Oct. 22, 1953], No. 30237/54. Class 37. The resistance variation of a potentiometer is caused to follow an a rbitrary law by providing a number of taps to which voltages are applied at adjustable positions along the winding and a slider such that the voltage variation at the slider conforms to the required law. Figs. 5 and 6 show a potentiometer in which four separate output voltages may be taken from four sliders 1 (one only being shown), which are spaced 90 degrees apart around the potentiometer winding 2 which is of flattened toroidal shape. The V-shaped slider 1 has a contact 19 brazed to its end and the voltage from the four sliders are taken from slip rings 31, 32, 33, 34, via insulated screws 15 and contact pieces 39. An annular dielectric ring 11 supports any desired number of terminal taps having any given spacing. The taps comprise a flat conducting spring 21 riveted to a flat blade 24 which bears upon the winding 2 through a contact 25. A circular slot 20 in the annular ring 11 enables the positions of the taps to be readily moved by an adjustment tool, one end of which is placed in the slot 20. Suitable voltage may be applied to the taps so that when the sliders 1 are rotated on the winding 2 under the action of journalled shaft 17 a voltage varying according to a given law may be derived at slip rings 31-34, the output wires from which are taken out via channel 36 in the wall of the carrier member 11 and the frame 27.
