The catch element of a catch of the type in which the catch element is adapted to be secured to a door or panel, the element comprising a housing 10 and a spring-loaded bolt 19 having a part which normally projects from an aperture 11 in the housing, and a striker 22 adapted to be secured to the door jamb or other member against which the door panel closes, the striker being so shaped as to contact the projecting part of the bolt during opening and closing of the door and to cause the retraction of the bolt against the action of the spring loading, has its bolt and/or housing provided with resilient locking formations 20 such that in assembly the bolt can be inserted into the housing through the aperture 11, the locking formations being resiliently distorted during insertion of the bolt in this manner and resuming their undistorted positions when the bolt is in its normal position, the arrangement being such that the spring loading is insufficiently forceful to distort the locking formations to an extent sufficient to free the bolt. The spring loading is by means of a helical coil-spring 18 which is of such size that it can be inserted through the aperture 11 prior to the introduction of the bolt and it is trapped between a recess 21 in the bolt and a recess 17 in the end wall of the housing. The housing is provided with slotted lugs by which it is secured to the door or panel. As shown, the formations are on the bolt and one is of rectangular shape and the other of wedge shape but both can be of rectangular shape or both of wedge shape. The bolt, the housing and the striker are all made by injection moulding from nylon.
