Abstract

900,697. Shovelling machines. LANDSVERK A.B. July 16, 1959 [Aug. 21, 1958], No. 24449/59. Class 68 (1). An excavating and loading machine particularly for use in tunnels and like confined spaces, and comprising a vertically swingable load boom and a bucket arm movably supported by the boom, is characterized by the upper part of the boom which carries the bucket arm being swingable relative to the lower part and by the swinging part of the boom and the bucket arm being operated by independent driving means. This enables the dumping position of the bucket to be higher than is the case with an integral boom, and a larger vehicle 15 than is usual may be used. The conventional wheeled or tracked vehicle 1, with turntable 2, carries a boom 3 which is pivoted at 4 and is adjusted by an axially adjustable tie-bar 19. The bucket arm 9 is racked to engage a pinion 8a driven reversibly on the shaft 8 by a chain 16. Pivoted on the shaft 8 is the upper part 17 of the boom, this part including a guide 14 for the sliding of the arm 9. A winch 11 has a cable 12 which passes over an idler sheave, or sheaves, 21 on a stationary structure 20, and over an idler, or idlers, 18 on the part 17 of the boom, to be attached at 10a to the bucket 10. The part 17 occupies the position shown in Fig. 4 when the bucket is gathering a load but swings over into the position shown in Fig. 3 when the bucket is positioned for dumping. In a modification, an idler pinion is interposed between the rack 9a and the pinion 8 so that the bucket arm is still further raised above the vehicle 15; and in another modification this effect is increased by driving the rack-engaging pinion from the shaft 8 by a chain and sprocket.
