Abstract
900,327. Hydraulic intensifiers. COX OF WATFORD Ltd. March 28, 1961 [Nov. 11, 1960], No. 38766/60. Class 69 (2). An hydraulic intensifier for a clamping, piercing or like system comprises an hydraulic piston 7 and cylinder 5 for supplying fluid under pressure to clamping, piercing or like heads 2, 3, and means 14 whereby the fluid in the cylinder is automatically replenished when the piston is in its fully retracted position. The piston 7 is connected by a rod 8 to a largediameter piston 9 movable in a cylinder 4 by compressed air to cause the piston 7 to pressurize fluid in the cylinder 5, pipes 6, 6<SP>1</SP> and the heads 2, 3. The pistons are urged to a retracted position by a spring 10 in which position a reservoir 13 is connected by a pipe 16, passages 14 and orifices 15, 17 to the rear and front of the piston 7. A seal 11 is positioned at the end of the cylinder 5. Liquid is drawn into, and expelled from, the space behind the piston during its reciprocation and in its rearward position liquid is admitted through the orifices 17, which are smaller than the orifices 15, to the space in front of the piston to replenish losses in the system caused by leakage.
