Abstract
1,262,150. Moving gun barrels into travelling position. RHEINMETALL G.m.b.H. 21 April, 1969 [29 May, 1968], No. 20229/69. Heading F3C. A gun has a pneumatic barrel recuperator comprising a piston 2 working in a cylinder and connected to the gun barrel 5 the rear face of the piston being acted on by the gas and a barrel moving cylinder 6 having a rear oil storage chamber 13 and a forward gas storage chamber 15 separated by a floating piston 7. The gas storage chamber 15 is directly connected to the chamber of the recuperator which contains the gas acting on the rear face of the piston 2 and the oil storage chamber 13 communicates with the forward face of the piston through a pipe line incorporating a valve 12 and a hand pump 10. Normally the valve 12 vents the forward face of the piston 2 to atmosphere but when the gun barrel 5 is to be retracted for travelling pressurized hydraulic fluid is pumped into the recuperator to act on the forward face of the piston and thus move the barrel 5.
