899,317. Sawing. JAGERS, L., [trading as TRENNJAGER MASCHINENFABRIK]. April 22, 1960 [April 24, 1959], No. 14285/60. Class 145. A saw blade 9 is mounted at one end in a reciprocating holder 11 and is slidable in a channel 12 in a guiding member 13, the channel being of sufficient width to receive nearly the whole of the blade except for the toothed edge and sufficiently elongated to receive the length of the blade completely or nearly completely. Rails 15 of hardened metal are provided at the mouth of the channel. Additional guiding members having a hardened facing of cemented carbide or the like are carried in a block 16 on the end of the member 13 and are threaded so as to be adjustable to bear on the back and two sides of the blade. A similar block may be provided on the opposite side of the workpiece 3 from the block 16, particularly if the saw cuts on the inward stroke. The reciprocating holder 11 slides in a carriage 8 movable by rack and pinion means, to feed the saw into the workpiece, along a rail 5 braced by members 7 to a lower beam 6. During its downward stroke, the saw dips into a bath 23a of oil emulsion or other liquid coolant and during the non-cutting stroke, which is preferably the upward stroke; the carriage 8 moves back to withdraw the blade from the bottom of the kerf.
