Abstract

The rough log is guided through the circular saw by a fixed guide on the machine engaging a slot in its base. This prevents lateral movement when being sawn into planks. The log (1) is planed at the top and bottom (2, 3), providing parallel surfaces. The slot (4) is cut centrally as the log enters the sawing machine, being subsequently removed by the central blade of the gang saw. The guide is a flat metal strip (5), running the length of the machine. It is held in a longitudinal recess in a support (6) by a wedge (7) clamping it against the side and is easily replaceable.
