Abstract

A shaped tubular, circumferentially stretchable knitted garment (Group VIII), e.g. a lady's stocking, an anklet, wristlet, knee binder or girdle, comprises a sheer non-rib knitted body portion having a plurality of different diameters and having a stretched stitch density of at least 1,000 stitches per square inch, said body portion being formed primarily of fine structural inelastic, torque, or stretch yarn (or a combination thereof) knitted together in every stitch thereof and including at least one additional substantially relaxed fine, bare, inherently clastic yarn, or stretch yarn, which defines the relaxed shape of the body portion, which extends substantially throughout the body portion and of which the major part runs coursewise at frequently recurring intervals, the additional yarn being locked in the body portion by being inlaid in the stitches thereof, or by being knitted in separated wales in not more than 70% of the stitches and floated between stitches. The structural yarn may be of nylon, may be of balanced or unbalanced twist, and may be of "S" and "Z" high twist in say, alternate courses; or S and Z twist components may be in plating relationship, or either may be plated with stretch yarns. The fabric edge portions may be devoid of inlaid yarn. The elastic yarn may be inlaid in alternate courses only. Specification 723,301 is referred to.
