Abstract

898,861. Bed-settees. GREAVES & THOMAS Ltd., and COBB, W. R. Jan. 30, 1961, No. 3504/61. Class 52(2) In a bed-settee of the kind having upholstered seat and backrest members the usable surfaces of which may be brought into a common horizontal plane to form a bed, the pivot 18 that interconnects the seat member 7 and the backrest member 6 is located intermediate the depth of the upholstery of one of the members and at substantially an equal distance from the proximate end thereof, and said end has a radius the centre of which is approximately the pivot 18, whereby the full width of the surface of the other of said members is added to the sleeping width of the usable surfaces. As shown in Fig. 1 a stationary base frame 1 is provided with a plate 2 to which the links 3, 4 are pivotally connected at 16, 17. The upper ends of the links 3, 4 are pivoted at 18, 19 to a plate 5 which is secured to the backrest member 6. A plate 12 is attached to the seat member 7 and is pivotally connected at 18 to the plate 5. If the seat is pulled forward the links 3, 4 will raise the edge 9 of the seat member and cause the backrest member 6 to drop downwards until it reaches the position shown in Fig. 2. As shown in Fig. 1 about five inches of the seat member 7 is located beneath the backrest member 6. In a modification shown in Fig. 3 about five inches of the backrest member is located behind the seat member. In a further modification the link 4 is omitted.
