1,132,918. Chairs convertible into beds. R. COTTARD. 7 April, 1967 [19 April, 1966], No.16097/67. Heading A4J. In an armchair or sofa convertible into a bed and comprising a folding frame pivotally mounted on a fixed frame, the lateral sides 11 constituting the arm rests of the chair are hollow and are movable relative to the fixed frame so that they can be set in a position to surround the sides of the folding frame when the latter is folded and also in a second position in which they are spread apart or tilted to the outside. The sides 11 are secured to levers 13 pivoted by pins 14 to the fixed frame and when the foldable frame is folded up, the lower edge of a vertical panel 15 fixed to one member of the foldable frame presses on the ends of the levers 13 to hold the sides 11 in a vertical position. The foldable frame is locked in folded condition by a spring urged hook 16 pivoted to the panel 15 and adapted to engage the fixed frame. In a modification (Figs. 5, 6 7) the hollow sides (11a) are mounted on slideways (21) and are urged apart by springs (25). Pivoted levers (13a) couple the sides (11a) to the front panel 15.
