Abstract

398,679. Back-supports. GALLOP, S. H., Cumberless, Ember Lane, Esher, Surrey. Nov. 22, 1932, No. 32964. [Class 52 (ii).] A back-support for aiding sitting in bed, or on the ground or floor, comprises two spaced side members 7, 8, Fig. 1, each of which has a curved fulcrum or rocker part 9 adapted to rest on the ground or other surface, with cross members 12, 13 adapted respectively to support the back and thighs of the user. The device may be made of metal tube, the cross members 12, 13 being of sheet metal, fabric, cane or other material: When the cross members are of rigid material, the side members 14, 15, Fig. 6, may be separate, and connected only by the cross members. A strip of canvas 22 may be attached to one cross member for the user to sit on. The device may be hinged at the fulcrum so as to fold up. Fig. 7 shows a form of the device constructed of wood, the lower cross member 27 being in this case of greater width so that the user sits thereon. The frame members 24, 25 are hinged together at 26.
