Abstract

426,334. Adjustable chairs. DUNBAR, E., 313, Burley Road, Leeds. Oct. 2, 1933, No. 26262. [Class 52 (ii)] An adjustable chair comprises legs, a seat b, Figs. 1 and 2, movable independently of the back, means such as links a enabling the seat to be moved forwardly and downwardly from a normal position to a lower position, shown in Fig. 2, in which the front edge of the seat is in front of the front legs, and means, such as hooks g engaging a cross rail of the frame, for retaining the seat in lowered position. In the normal position, dowel pins f under the rear edge of the seat engage holes in a cross member of the frame, while the front of the seat rests on the upper ends of the front legs. The links a may be constituted by a U-shaped member a<1>, pivoted to the seat at c, c, and to the legs at d, d. Fig. 3 shows the invention applied to a metal framed chair; the securing means comprise hooks n which engage alternatively upper or lower cross members of the frame. As shown in Fig. 5, the links k may be located at the rear of the seat, dowel pins m being provided at the front for locating the seat in the two alternative positions. In another construction, the front legs form links, and swing about pivots at their lower ends connecting them to the rest of the frame.
