Abstract
In a process for the diffusion-coating of metals, the metal base to be coated is heated by means of high-frequency induction and treated with a halide of a metal or metalloid in vapour form. A suitable apparatus comprises a furnace, in which halide is generated by the reaction of a halogen with the coating element, and a tube forming a lower extension of the furnace which contains the base to be coated and is surrounded by an induction coil. Specified coating elements are C, N2, S, Al, Zn, Cd, Cu, Ni, Mn, Cr, Mo, W, Ti and Zr. Specified bases are Fe, Ni, Co, Ti, Zr, Mo, W, Nb and Ta.
