Abstract

897,461. Dispensing liquids by gaseous pressure. STERLING DRUG Inc. Nov. 1, 1960 [Nov. 5, 1959], No. 37474/60. Class 102(2). [Also in Group XVIII] An aerosol valve comprises a one-piece member 24 of moulded thermoplastic secured by a ferrule 34 to the mouth of a container 10, a measuring chamber formed in the member 24 by a plug 60 and a valve stem 32 in sliding engagement at three spaced points with a hole in the ferrule, in the bottom of the member 24 and in an intermediate rubber gasket 57. The stem is normally pressed outwards by a spring 54 fitted between a washer 56 above the gasket 57 and a flange 52 on the stem, so that a port 50 establishes communication between the measuring chamber and the interior of the container. On depressing the stem, an outlet port 44 moves into the measuring chamber and the port 50 moves below a gasket 66. The capacity of the chamber may be varied by fitting plugs of differing inside diameter or by using estra washers in the chamber. In the modification shown in Fig. 4, the measuring chamber is formed by an inter-changeable plug 70 leaving an internal annular groove 72 and the need for the gaskets 57 and 66 is obviated.
