In a flat grid G for an electron discharge tube, the sides 8 of the grid-frame which are parallel to the grid-wires 2 are extended by local deformation under pressure in order to stretch the wires, the deformation being such that the inner edges i of sides 8 extend more than the outer edges o, thus avoiding inward bowing of the sides 10 due to wire-tension. The deformation may produce recesses 9 wider and/or deeper at the edge i than at edge o. The wires may be wound on the frame and secured by soldering with gold.
