Abstract

897,215. Radar; aerials. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Sept. 12, 1958 [Sept. 20, 1957], No. 29629/57. Class 40(7). [Also in Group XL(b)] The invention comprises a radar apparatus of the type which transmits and receives two or more pairs of signals, the received signals being representative of the angular displacement of an object about different axes, combined with a paraboloid aerial of the space stabilized type and characterized in that means are provided for transmitting and receiving only one of the pairs of signals at a time and in that a number of hybrid arrangements, equal to or less than the number of pairs of signals, are mounted to be moved with the paraboloid of the aerial. In the case of two pairs of signals received signals are fed from the aerial alternately to one or other of the pairs of waveguides 7. 9 or 8,10 whence they pass through guides 13, 15 to a hybrid arrangement 16 which gives sum and difference signal outputs in guides 17 and 18 respectively. The waveguides 7, 8, 9, 10 are mounted symmetrically about the axis of the paraboloid aerial and have their ends in close proximity to the flat rear face of a plate, the front face of which forms part of the parabola. This plate carries two or four feeders. In the case of two feeders, Fig. I (not shown), the plate and feeders are rotated by a motor so that the feeders are fed from opposite pairs of waveguides twice in each revolution, the guides not feeding the feeders being effectively shorted by the plate. If four feeders are employed the plate need not be rotated, a shutter being rotated between the ends of the guides and the rear face of the plate so that only two feeders are energized at any one time while the remaining feeders are short-circuited. Specification 874,203 is referred to.
