Abstract
897,121. Refrigerators. CARRIER CORPORATION. April 22, 1959 [May 19, 1958], No. 13752/59. Class 29. A refrigerated chamber, such as for displaying frozen foods and having an opening for access at different levels, is provided with a curtain of refrigerated flowing air across the opening and a second independent curtain of air adjacent the first one and forming a barrier curtain. As shown in Fig. 1, the first curtain is formed between front openings in upper and lower plenums 20, 16, the air being forced by fans 31 through duct 18, plenum 20 and over evaporator 40 in plenum 16, the plenums 20, 16 and duct 18 being formed between the chamber walls 11, 12, 13, and outer walls 17, 19, 21. The barrier curtain, shown in exploded view in Fig. 1, but normally adjacent the first curtain, receives some of the air which spills from the first curtain, the air being circulated by fans 46 through side ducts 47 to an overhead duct 48 from which it flows to form the barrier curtain before reentering duct 45. In a modification, the shelves 30 may be replenished through a rear door and duct 18 is replaced by a duct on each side. If an air conditioning system is also provided, air may be supplied from part 70, Fig. 7, of the overhead system to form a third air curtain.
