Abstract

1,259,933. Refrigerators; defrosting. EMHART CORP. 2 March, 1970 [11 June, 1969], No. 9878/70. Heading F4H. A refrigerated display cabinet which is kept at substantially uniform temperature comprises an insulated enclosed space 14 with a perforated shelf 100 below an access opening 12 having an air curtain 116 formed of air streams 112, 114, the curtain and refrigerated air for the space being provided by a refrigerator means 48. The means embodies several refrigerator units each having one or more blowers 46 for directing air from a common plenum chamber 44 into a common plenum 50 and at least one refrigerator unit is operative whilst one or more of the remainder is defrosting. The blower associated with a defrosting unit is inactive and a gravityactuated damper is mounted between each unit and the plenum to prevent cold air flow from a defrosting unit. The refrigerated air from the space passes to the plenum 44 via a duct 40. A second plenum 52 common to the units supplies an additional flow of refrigerated air through outlets 34 into the space. The units are of the compression type and are successively defrosted under the control of time clocks or the like by hot refrigerant gas from a common compressor.
