Abstract
897,107. Addressing machines. FABBRICA ITALIANA MACCHINE AZIENDALT. June 17, 1958 [July 24, 1957], No. 19365/58. Class 100(2) A feed mechanism for feeding a series of printing devices, e.g. address plates, in succession along a guideway in a printing machine comprises two reciprocable feeding devices 1, 2 which alternately feed forward the printing devices lying in the guideway, one feeding device returning to its starting position while the. other feeding device moves forwards. The devices 1, 2 together with the guideway disposed between them are located in a recess in the work table of the machine and each has its own slide 3, 4 which reciprocates on a fixed block 5, 6. The device 1 carries feed teeth 71-3 and the device 2 carries feed teeth 8<SP>1-5</SP>. The slides 3, 4 are reciprocated by means of bell-crank levers 17, 17<SP>1</SP> which are oscillated by cams 20, 20<SP>1</SP> which can be clutched to a driven shaft 23 by means of clutches 22, 22<SP>1</SP>. Address plates are extracted from a magazine by the slides 3, 4 and are then fed towards a pressure member 24, where printing is effected, by the teeth on the devices 1, 2. The feeding devices can be rendered inoperative at all stations of the guideway after a given station, e.g. the printing station, by means of a vertically movable platform 25, Fig. 3, underlying the devices 1,2. The platform is spring-biased downwards but may be moved upwards by the rotation of cams 26, 26<SP>1</SP> under the control of a solenoid 28. Such movement causes the teeth, 7<SP>1</SP> and 7<SP>2</SP> as shown, to rotate about their pivots 3 so that they no longer project above the upper surface of their respective feed devices. One of the feed devices may be rendered inoperative by disengaging one of the clutches 22, 22<SP>1</SP>, Specification 897,108 is referred to.
