Abstract
888,282 Punching etc.; presses; blanks transferring. SCHWARZ, E. Oct. 27, 1959 [Oct. 27, 1958], No. 36453/59. Class 83 (4). In a self-powered reciprocating gripper G for transferring work (not shown) between work-stations in one or more punching, drawing, &c. presses, the gripping elements 36 are controlled by the press or presses, and means 12, 40 adjustably secure the gripper to the press-table or tables D. Brackets 12, 40 adjustable vertically by screws secure the gripper-drive box A and a plate B to the table D. Two pairs of rods 10, 11, guided in the plate and box A, B, support at least one pair of blocks 32 in which transverse slides 34 carry plates 35 for supporting the elements 36. Clamping movement of slides 34 is by rotation of rods 11 which carry levers 37 engaging openings in the plates 35 (Fig. 4, not shown). The rods 10 are connected to the blocks 32 and 33 and to a yoke 20 having an adjustable tongue 29 for pushing work from a feeding device or a magazine 31 to the first work-station. Traverse of the yoke 20 by a pneumatic cylinder 13, lever 16 and a link 17. The rods 11 have collars 21 bearing on the yoke and rotated by a pneumatic cylinder 22 which operates a pair of levers 24 pivoted at 25 to the yoke, Fig. 3, the levers being connected by levers 27 to the rods 11. Switches 39, Fig. 5, operated by the work stop the gripper if the work is gripped incorrectly, and a plunger 42, Fig. 8, operated by the press-ram (not shown) withdraws the grippers in the event of failure of the gripper mechanism. The plunger 42 engages levers 43 connected to levers 37. In operation, tongue 29 transfers the work to the first work-station, and following the first working operations the grippers 36 are closed on to the work, which is engaged by the first pair. The grippers are then advanced along the table, separated and withdrawn, leaving the work in position to be gripped by the second pair of grippers after the second operation, and so on. A single pair of rods 10a, Fig. 6, may effect axial and lateral movements of the gripper-support plates 35, which are beneath guides 41 extending between the drive-box A and support B. The rods may be extended by coupling sleeves, and additional supports may be used. Instead of driving the gripper by fluid pressure, it may be driven by electro-motors.
