Abstract
897,014. Hydraulic couplings. VOITH G.m.b.H., J. M. Sept. 25, 1959 [Nov. 7, 1958], No. 32748/59. Class 69 (2). An hydraulic coupling comprises a rotor 1 carrying a casing 3 which encloses the other rotor 2 and has one or more overflow holes 10 spaced radially from the axis of the coupling at a distance corresponding to a required degree of filling of the coupling. As described, the coupling is filled by liquid supplied from a pipe 6 and a directly or indirectly-controlled valve 7 to the bore of a shaft 4 connected to the impeller of the coupling, and may be emptied for example, by controllable ports or valves 9 at the periphery of the coupling. When the coupling is completely full, liquid between the runner and casing overflows and passes through the holes 10 into a channel 11 secured to the casing. A scoop tube 13 transmits the pressure of the liquid in the channel to a pressureresponsive mechanism 15 which either gives an indication of the pressure in the channel or automatically actuates the valve 7 to control the filling of the coupling. The signal from the mechanism 15 may be electrical, pneumatic or hydraulic, and pressure acting on the mechanism varied by a valve 16<SP>1</SP>. A port 12, which may be adjustable, in the channel 11 permits a constant leak so that there is a constant flow of liquid through the coupling which serves to keep the coupling cool.
