Abstract
896,576. Suspended-ceilings. GOYER, G. J. Feb. 24, 1961 [March 11, 1960], No. 6901/61. Class 20(4) Suspension means for solid ceiling panels 25 comprises bearers having bottom portions furnished with inwardly directed support shoulders 23 and outwardly directed keeper flanges 24, the panels being provided with latch members 26 yieldably engagable over the shoulders 23 and with recesses 32 which receive the keeper flanges 24. The bearers may be formed by extrusion and adjacent lengths may be connected end-to-end by bowed bolted splice plates 33. A web 17 of the bearer may be formed with an arrow shaped flange 18 adapted for upward engagement within re-entrant jaws on the yieldable limbs of C- sectioned clips 19 connected to hangers 20. The latch members 26 may comprise upwardly bent yieldable end portions of channels 30 which are fixed to the panels and which are formed with the recesses 32, which channels may extend either wholly or partly across the panel. In a modification, Fig. 7 (not shown) yieldable latch members are separately formed from, but attached to, channel members secured to the panels. Separate latch members may also be directly secured to the panels. In another modification yieldable latch members are carried by channel sectioned members 51 Fig. 11, each having a flange 52 received in an edge groove 50 of a panel. In a further modification the upper faces of the panels have directly mounted thereon yieldable latch members 58, Fig. 13, and are directly formed with recesses 60 to receive the keeper flanges 57. In another modification the bearers 63 are formed of pressed metal and are yieldable to permit engagement between shoulders 65 and beaded portions 68 on latch members 67 formed as end plates upon members 61 received in edge grooves of the panels 62.
