Abstract

986,887. Suspended ceilings. E. DALBY. Feb. 15, 1962 [Nov. 8, 1961; Jan. 17, 1962], Nos. 39983/61 and 1638/62. Heading E1V A suspended ceiling comprises a plurality of springy strips 10 of flat or slightly bowed free transverse section which at their longitudinal edges engage the full length of laterally facing channels in a series of parallel rows of support members 13 placed end to end, which are in turn supported by rails 15. Sound absorbing material 11 is spaced above the strips 10. The material from which the strips 10 are made is supplied in rolls, may comprise aluminium or plastic, and may be perforated. The support members 13, in the embodiment of Fig. 1, terminate in an edge bead 13c capable of receiving a decorative plastic trim strip 17 Fig. 3 which conceals the joints between endwise abutting lengths of support member. Flanges 13d define with the bead 13c, opposed channels for receiving the adjacent edges of juxtaposed strips 10. A flange 13a serves for the connection of the members 13 to T section rails 15, by bolting as in Fig. 1, or by means of clips shown in Fig. 6. Alternative but similar forms of support member 13 and a securing clip are described with reference to Figs. 4, 5 and 7 (not shown). In modification, strips 110, Fig. 8 are received in channels 114 bent into side flanges 113a of channel members 113.
