[Also in Group XIII] A heating installation (see Group XIII), wherein heated vapour is supplied to an apparatus such as a sterilizer 1 from a heat accumulator 3 incorporates a combined safety valve and thermally-actuated valve which opens to allow waste air to discharge from the sterilizer and closes when steam flows through the valve. The valves are housed within a body 12 through the bottom of which projects a finned pipe 11 conveying air or steam from the sterilizer. The safety valve consists of a weight-loaded cylinder 13 having a nipple seating in the end of the pipe 11 and bored to provide a passage terminating in a seating engaged by a check valve 14. Housed within the cylinder 13 is a bellows 15 containing a liquid, for example, ethanol, whose boiling-point is lower than that of water and having an extension 16 which can engage the check valve to hold it closed. When steam enters the sterilizer it displaces air through the valve, the air flowing through a pipe 17 to atmosphere through water in a tank 18. When steam begins to flow through the valve the bellows 15 expands and closes the valve 14 and a closed circuit circulation of the heat transfer medium is instituted, an occurrence of excess pressure in the sterilizer being relieved by the valve 13.
