Abstract
783,202. Wells. WATERMAN, R. R. April 1, 1955, No. 9525/55. Class 85 [Also in Group XIII] A heater for fluids in well holes and particularly for oil wells comprises a closed heating chamber 13 positioned within the well casing 10 below the liquid level therein, steam being supplied through a pipe 14 to the chamber and condensate from the chamber being discharged into the well through a pipe 19 extending from the lower part of the chamber, at which point a restricted orifice 24, (Fig. 2), a steam trap, or other orifice control device is provided, steam normally being supplied to the chamber at a rate exceeding only very slightly the rate of accumulation of condensate so that only condensate is discharged from the chamber. In the form shown the heating chamber 13 is installed in an oil well and surrounds and thereby heats oil flowing through the pumping tube 11 as well as supplying heat to the oil around the chamber. Heat is also supplied to the surrounding oil by the condensate discharged from the chamber. The condensate discharge pipe 19 may be provided with a non-return valve 22.
