Abstract

Compositions containing amino-1,3,5-triazine perhydrates are used for the oxidative treatment of hair, e.g. in bleaching hair, in dyeing hair with oxidation dyestuffs and in cold-waving hair. Triazine perhydrate compounds containing at least two amino groups, e.g. 2,4-diamino-6-phenyl-1,3,5-triazin perhydrate and melamine perhydrate, are preferably used. The triazine perhydrates may be stabilised in solid compositions by the addition of magnesium silicate, monosodium phosphate, sodium pyrophosphate or phenacetine. The compositions may contain fatty alcohols, cholesterol, wool fat and plant extracts, e.g. camomile and coltsfoot. Pulverulent mixtures which, when added to water or aqueous alcohol, may be used as a cream for dyeing hair, may contain an amino-1,3,5-triazine perhydrate, an oxidation dyestuff, e.g. the sulphates and hydrochlorides of p-toluylene diamine, m-toluylenediamine, aminophenol and amino diphenylamine, a thickener, e.g. tragacanth, polyacrylic esters, polyvinyl, pyrrolidone, carboxy methyl cellulose or alginates, and surface-active substances, e.g. alkyl sulphates and alkyl arylsulphonates. In an example a process for cold waving hair is described in which the hair is first treated with an aqueous solution of thioglycollic acid adjusted to a pH of 9.6 with ammonia and then fixed with an aqueous solution or suspension containing melamine perhydrate.
