A road structure comprises a series of triangular sections placed together to form a continuous mosaic road surface and joining members at the corners of the triangles connecting each triangular section to its neighbours. The joining members are supported by the ground and are of such height that they at least partly support the road sections and at least partly transmit the road load to the ground. An aperture extends through each joining member whereby sand may be directed to its underside. As shown in Fig. 2 triangular section 1, an underside view of which in shown in Fig. 3, has a surface section 3 built up on weight carrying beams 5 through which pass post-stressing reinforcing rods in holes 10. . At their corners the sections are provided with projections 7 engaging in recesses 8 in the bases 9 of joining members 2. Joining members 2 rest on slabs 12 placed on the ground with, if necessary, a layer 13 of sand therebetween to allow of levelling of the road surface. The edges of the sections 1 are provided with grooves 16 to take a sealing strip or bitumastic or similar filler to seal the road against ingress of moisture. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 2 the joining members are of such height that the sections are held off the ground. In a further embodiment, Fig. 5, both the joining members and the sections rest on the ground and provision is made to prevent the sections being lifted out of engagement with the joining members. The upper part of the joining member is formed by a metal sleeve 22 connected to the concrete base 23. With the sections in place a split ring 24 is inserted around the sleeve 22, the split ring pressing downwards on to shoulder 28 on the sections and upwards on to shoulder 26 of the sleeve 22 to prevent relative displacement of the section and the joining member. A removable plug 30 within sleeve 22 permits adjustment of the height of the road by removal or addition of earth from or to the ground beneath the joining member.
