520,399. Retaining walls; subways ; shelters. STENT PRECAST CONCRETE, Ltd., and STENT, D. H. Oct. 20, 1938, No. 30402. [Classes 68 (ii) and 85] A trench or like structure, such as an air-raid shelter, is lined at the sides with pressed concrete slabs supported by posts arranged at intervals and is covered by a roof formed of preformed slabs spanning the trench and supported at their ends by the side slabs or the posts. Spaced base slabs 1 have tapered recesses 3 receiving spigots 4 on H-section, concrete posts 2 with projecting feet 5 and reinforcement 7, 8, 9 ; hydraulically-pressed &c. concrete slabs 12, with overlapping rebates 14 or plain grouted joints, are built up between the posts and are topped by T-section slabs 15 the ends of which abut against reduced upper extensions 13 of the posts. The inner, upper surfaces of the slabs 15 have pro-. jections 20 over which, and over post extensions 1, 3, fit hooked ends 24 of reinforced concrete roof slabs 21 of U-section; grout 29 is filled into grooves to bond the slabs 21 and passes through vertical grooves to slab 21 to the side slabs. Adjacent roof slabs may also be tied together by hair pin, splayed or other ties grouted into aligned undercut grooves. The floor may be formed of slabs or of concrete laid in situ. Where two trenches intersect, Fig. 4, posts 32 have grooves in adjacent sides to receive the side slabs, and the end roof slabs 38 have ribs 39 over which raised roof slabs are hooked, or which abut against the sides of such roof slabs ; reinforcement may project from the ribs 39 into holes in the roof slabs; a similar arrangement is provided at exits. Ventilation &c. shafts 41 are provided. In another form, the posts 2 are square, and' the slabs are placed between the posts and the soil.
