895,867. Electric fires. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Nov. 18, 1959 [Nov. 18, 1958], No. 37077/58. Class 39(3) Two elements 1, 2 of an electric heater are connected in parallel by a switching arrangement including a bridging piece 11 arranged to span two bus-bars 5, 6 to effect a physical connection directly between them. As shown, two rod-type heating elements 1 and 2 are supported at one end in notches in L-shaped bus-bars 5 and 6 which pass through a slot in a reflector 3 and are secured by insulating members 8 to the base of a channel 4 forming a terminal box. At the other end the elements 1 and 2 are supported in two notches in a single similar bus-bar (not shown) which is connected to the neutral of an A.C. supply. A terminal post 15 secured to the bus-bar 5 is connected to a supply line and also constitutes a fixed contact. The bridging piece 11 is a resilient copper strip carried by a bracket 10 riveted to the bus-bar 6 and so bent that a contact tip 20 is biased into engagement with the terminal post 15, thus connecting the elements 1 and 2 in parallel. The connection may be broken by a manually operated member 13. The connecting flex is secured by a clamp 18 to a bent out tongue 17 provided with an earthing terminal 19.
