Abstract
895,641. Cutting-machines. S. & S. CORRUGATED PAPER MACHINERY CO. Inc. June 26, 1959 [Aug. 4, 1958], No. 22072/59. Class 31 (1). [Also in Group XVI] In a cutting and creasing press comprising a cam-operated quadrant 24 for forcing sheets against a die 23 and sheet grippers 11 carried by feed slats 12a to 12e mounted on intermittentlydriven endless chains 14, 15, stop-means 30 are provided at sheet-receiving station 13, the stop means comprising a cam-operated spring- influenced forked member 42 which is engageable with a roller 48 carried by feed slat 12a while the latter is locked in position by chaindrive sprockets 16, 17 at station 13. Each gripper includes a fixed lower jaw 51, Fig. 4, and a spring-influenced movable upper jaw 52 which is moved to the open position by means of a cam-operated push-rod 57. At station 13, a sheet 100 is conveyed, by means of conveyer 85, to the gripper jaws while these are open and is positioned by means of stops 32, 33 (not shown) carried by the stop means. A cam-operated spring-influenced tiltable table 70 is positioned to support the sheet 100 at station 13 while the sheet is being fed between the open gripper jaws and is further positioned to a lower position in which it supports the sheet while the latter is being transported from station 13 to cutting station 19. As the quadrant 24 is rocked by cams 25, 26 to force a sheet 100 against die 23 at the cutting station, a fork 101 carried by the quadrant moves to engage roller 48 to position feed slat 12a relative to the quadrant and hence position sheet 100 relative to die 23. The sheet is stripped from the grippers at station 20. Means are described with reference to Figs. 9, 9A and 9B (not shown) for positioning the die. To facilitate removal of the die, the press is provided with a pair of pivotally-mounted tracks 260, Fig. 8, along which the die can be slid to be supported by track mechanism associated with blocks 275, which track mechanism is tiltable to a vertical position to make the die readily accessible for repairs. Specification 895,640 is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 772,648.
