Abstract

895,606. Coated fabrics; waxed paper. SIEMENS & HALSKE A.G. April 22, 1960 [April 23, 1959], No. 14227/60. Classes 96 and 140. A carrier strip is coated by a method which includes the step of impregnating or coating the strip, which may be of paper, with wax to form a layer thereon, softening the wax layer by heating, transporting the softened layer past a smooth surface of a continuously cooled cylinder adapted to be rotated about its axis and maintaining the wax layer in contact with the smooth surface for a period long enough to cause the wax layer to solidify. The impregnated or coated carrier strip 4 may be wound from a first roll 3 in a housing 1 in which may also be mounted a heating element 2 which may heat the wax layer to a temperature above that at which it melts, transported past cylinder 5 which may be water- or air-cooled, prior to being wound into roll 9. The wax may be a mixture of paraffin wax and polyethylene together with polyisobutylene. A layer, which may be 6 microns thick, of an electrically insulating varnish may be deposited on to the solidified surface of the wax layer. A metallic coating may be vapour deposited on to the varnish surface and these two materials may together be readily peeled away from the wax coating.
