Abstract

895,462. Furniture joints. LANGHAM THOMPSON GROUP Ltd., J. Dec. 8, 1959 [Dec. 9, 1958], No. 39574/58. Class 52(2) [Also in Groups XVII and XXV] A connector for connecting together hollow members 4 forming the framework of a box, comprises two plates 1, 2 each having three outwardly extending limbs, the limbs of plate 1 being adapted to enter into the members 4, and a stud 3 co-operating with a nut for clamping the members 4 between corresponding limbs of the plates. The plate 2 in assembly is disposed inside the box with side flanges 6 on the plate abutting flanges 5 on the members 4, and the stud 3 has a head rounded to match the curved outer faces of the members 4. Suitable adhesive may be applied to the abutting faces of the flanges 5 and 6 or the latter may be secured together by screws or rivets; on the other hand, the side flanges 6 may be omitted. The stud 3 may be replaced by a threaded shank integral with or secured to the plate 1, the members 4 being angled to form a closed corner covering the connector. Shelf supports or the like may be added within the box by inserting suitably shaped heads of bolts in the hollow members 4 and turning the bolt heads through 90 degrees so as to fasten them in position. The Provisional Specification describes also the head of the stud 3 being shaped to facilitate stacking of the boxes.
