1471043 Structural joints E GRAZIANI 20 June 1974 [26 June 1973] 27467/74 Heading F2M A connecting assembly for two mutual transverse U-section stringers 3, 8 and a U-section stanchion 1 consists of two U-section connecting pieces 2, 4, a clamping plate 50, and securing bolts or the like 5, 10, 12, the piece 4 being welded at 9 to the stringer 8 and having a cutaway portion 11 to receive the stringer 3 so that the piece 2, which is sufficiently narrower than the piece 4 to allow its flanges 41 to fit within the flanges 14 of the piece 4, can be inserted in the channel of the stringer 3 with the two pairs of flanges 14, 41 overlapping, after which the assembled pieces 2, 4 are further fitted between appropriately spaced end flange portions 20 of the stanchion 1, the parts being secured together by passing the bolts 5 through aligned holes 25, 14<SP>1</SP> and 41 in stanchion 1, piece 4 and piece 2, respectively, tightening the nuts 6, spacers 17 providing the necessary bracing, and screwing bolt 10 and bolts 12 into tapped holes in the clamping plate 50, after passing them through aperture 10<SP>1</SP> in piece 4, and holes on stringer 3, respectively.
