Abstract
894,220. Typewriters. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. Aug. 2, 1960 [Aug. 31, 1959], No. 26707/60. Class 100(4) A margin stop arrangement consists of three margin stops adjustable on a carriage bar 1, the middle stop 30 is used with the right end stop 4 but can be made inoperative when the outer stops 3 and 4 are used. Each stop comprises a metal plate 20 with a fulcrum end 21, bearing on the rack 1, and side guides 22. A spring 29 keeps an abutment portion 16 or 12 in raised position with a block 25, connected to the two side flanges 24, in engagement with a recess in the bar 1. Pressure on the centre of the stop will release the block 25 so adjustment may be made. The central stop 30 works between two additional brackets 2 attaching the bar 1 to the typewriter carriage and when in use the abutment 16A engages the central stop 5. The stop 30 has an additional member 32 pivoted at 42 and is normally raised to position shown in Fig. 3 by a spring 44. To render the central stop ineffective the member 32 is pressed and latched down so a flat surface shown in Fig. 1 prevents the margin stop from abutting the fixed stop 5.
