Abstract

893,956. Purifying gases. CLAYTON SON & CO. Ltd. April 15, 1958, No. 11884/58. Class 55 (2). Hydrogen sulphide is removed from fuel gases by saturating the gases with moisture at a temperature of 50‹ C. to 100‹ C. in a humidifier 5 and using them to fluidize a bed 3 of iron oxide or other purification material in a reaction vessel 1, the temperature being maintained between 50‹ and 100‹ C. by means of a heating or cooling element 6. The gases may be passed through cyclone separators 7, 7a to a similar reaction vessel, the gases finally passing through pipe 9 to a wet dust extractor and storage. The purification material may be revivified by air or oxygen admitted through line 11 and valves 11a. Fresh material may be passed from hopper 12 into the second reaction vessel 1, or last one in the case of a series of such vessels, and material passed from the vessel to a chamber 15 and thence through an ejector 14, supplied with purified gas or air, to a cyclone separator 17 and the previous reaction vessel. Gas or air from the separator 17 is returned to the last vessel 1. In a modification the purification material is transferred to a separate vessel in which revivification takes place with the admission of air, and is then passed back to the reaction vessel.
