893,679. Sliver winding apparatus. HANSEATISCHE MOTOREN-G.m.b.H. Jan. 22, 1959, No. 2408/59. Class 120(1) Slivers are wound in a device provided with automatic means for doffing a completed ball or roll which comprises an auxiliary roller that receives the completed ball and is arranged to rotate at the same speed as or a higher speed than the rollers upon which the ball is formed. When the ball 12 has reached a predetermined size, a magnetic clutch provides driving connection to auxiliary roller 1 and effects release of a lever 2 that holds the ball 12 and now rocks until the ball 12 rests on the auxiliary roller 1. As the lever 2 rocks, an empty core 4<SP>1</SP> descends from a magazine 7 towards driving rollers 8, 9. Since the roller 1 rotates more quickly than the rollers 8, 9, the sliver is tensioned, facilitating severance by a striker 11 and a severed end is laid on the empty core 4<SP>1</SP>.
