Abstract
893,644. Welding by pressure; rolling mill plant. SIEMAG SIEGENER MASCHINENBAU G.m.b.H. July 25, 1960 [Oct. 17, 1959], No. 25748/60. Class 83 (4). Apparatus arranged between a furnace and the first roller stand or a through-run furnace of a continuous rolling mill for welding together billets &c. to be rolled comprises welding means movable in the longitudinal direction of the billets and an endless conveyer between the furnace and the roller stand or through-run furnace for supporting the billets. In an embodiment, billets 3 fed out from the furnace 2 are supported on a conveyer 4a formed by parallel roller carrying chains 4 running on an upper support 11. The conveyer is provided with a reversible drive and the welder 6 which has clamping devices 12 is connected to the conveyer for movement therewith. The conveyer and welder may have separate drives so that the conveyer upper run moves only in the direction of billet movement, the billet supports then being provided by upwardly curved supports. The welded billets are supplied to the first stand 1 of the mill but the through-run furnace may be provided at this position.
