893,309. Electron beam apparatus. BURROUGHS CORPORATION. Dec. 7, 1960 [Dec. 16, 1959], No. 42172/60. Class 39(1) In a trochotron type multiposition beam switching tube the longitudinal magnetic field is provided by an assembly of permanent magnet rods 26 surrounding the electrode assembly, as shown outside the envelope, and mounted by means of insulating rings 30, 32. In a modification the rods 26 are within the tube envelope, being mounted between the mica end discs 22. The positioning of the magnet rods is stated to be less critical than the positioning of a cylindrical magnet and, in addition, the configuration of the magnetic field, in conjunction with the electric fields in the tube, tends to prevent electrons from impinging on the mica end discs.
